Limited Edition Giclee Prints

"Giclee' or "Gee-clay", is a recent term, coined to describe the new arrival of digitally produced fine art prints. The word 'loosly' translates from French as "To spray ink" .

This process has been refined to the extent now, that the prints being produced, are of exceptional quality and clarity. The new system of inks used, are widely touted to have a colourfastness, (how long they last before fading) of between 30 to 70 years. This has only been established through studies and  computer models, but is a vast improvement on the old style lithographs.

We produce our prints on either, high quality, heavy weight coated etching paper, or high quality coated artists' canvas.

These images, demonstrate the beautifully reproduced colours and textures from the original painting. Even up close, all of the detail is visible.

All of Shane's Giclee prints, are reproduced from a digital image of the original painting, then colour corrected by the artist before printing. These are then signed by the artist and individually numbered and catalogued. The prints are finally varnished, using a special acrylic polymer, UV resistant coating. This both protects the print from moisture and dirt, as well as adding a gloss finish.

There are many advantages in this new system of printing, the most outstanding being, the print is colour fast for much longer than traditional prints. Also, the prints can be produced on demand, in small runs of limited editions.

Due to the high costs of inks and media though, Giclees tend to be priced higher than traditional 4 colour prints.

prints-mail Upon receiving your print, it is best to handle it as little as possible as acid from your hands can discolour the paper. The print should be framed as soon as possible to avoid damage. Canvas prints are more durable, but should also be handled with care. Prints on paper, should always be framed under glass. Prints on canvas, can either be framed under glass, stretched over a frame, block mounted or traditionally framed, like an original painting. In fact, sometimes it is hard to tell the difference.

The Prints are sent via Australia post or international Air Mail in a standard post tube. This is the best way to prevent damage to the print. Prints on canvas stretcher frames, are bubble wrapped and boxed.
